OFRA Team
Ann Wells, DVM
Dr. Ann Wells is a founding member and mentor of OFRA; her work was instrumental in helping OFRA form from several Oklahoma Heifer International groups, and she remains an active participant and mentor in OFRA. We wanted to take a moment here to introduce her to all OFRA members. She graduated from Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine and has more than 25 years experience in livestock production, including producing and selling natural lamb and grass finished beef. Operating a sheep and goat veterinary practice sparked her interest in complementary veterinary medicine. Her philosophy is to focus on the health of the animal through controlled grazing management and stress reduction techniques and strategies. Dr. Wells was in private practice for eleven years, worked for a ATTRA for nine years, then as a consultant for Heifer International, where she researched parasite management strategies to reduce the need for anthelmintics. She maintains her wellness practice, Springpond Holistic Animal Health, in Prairie Grove, AR, where she develops and educates on sustainable animal wellness plans for producers and educators. Since 2005, she has worked with limited-resource and socially disadvantaged livestock producers, including Native American and African-American producers who are wishing to revitalize their communities and improve the health of their families. She was program director at the Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture from 2010 to 2012. Dr. Wells really feels that nutrition is the key to good health. She continues to work with ruminant producers; large and small, helping them develop health wellness management plans so their animals don’t get sick.
